Wedding Fairs galore!
I’ve found that as a new wedding cake maker, it’s quite important to let people know you exist! So to get my name out in front of lots of potential brides and grooms, I decided to book some wedding fairs where I could exhibit Pink Peppercorn Cakes.
The first wedding fair I booked was not until next March and it is the massive I Do Wedding Exhibition at Doncaster Racecourse. But being the kind of impatient person I am, I couldn’t wait that long, and booked myself onto the I Do Wedding Exhibition at Ice Arena in Sheffield. The I Do wedding fairs are huge and the biggest in the country, so I would highly recommend a visit to one if you are planning your big day.
The arena is literally an ice rink where they had covered the ice with a carpet, and it was huge! I was able to set up my stand the evening before the event, and managed to persuade my trusty friend Wendy to come along and help. Wendy proved to be invaluable not least in borrowing step ladders from other exhibitors as I had forgotten to take any along. Note to self – add them to the list next time!
I made a selection of dummy cakes to display on my stand and I tried to make sure I had a selection of cakes to highlight a range of different techniques that I can provide. A lot of brides can’t visualise what their cake will look like so it really helps having display cakes there. I would say my cakes are quite girly and I love making ruffles, flowers and sparkly cakes, but I also had cakes showing marbling, wafer flowers and even hand-painted cakes.
I also tried to take cakes of different sizes and heights as this helps brides to visualise the size of their cake. Its hard to imagine an 8 inch tier but if you have one to look at then it helps not only with the design process but also to see how many portions you get as well.

I took along some cake samples too, I made a salted caramel sponge and got lots of lovely comments about how nice it tasted. I think by doing that, it shows that at Pink Peppercorn Cakes, we can have cakes that are lovely to look at but also taste good too. The samples went down really well not only with my brides but also the other exhibitors close by!
The exhibition was a great success – such a busy day. I met lots and lots of brides and grooms and a lot of mums and dads, bridesmaids and friends too! I was completely hoarse at the end, but I loved it! Thank you to everyone that came along to say hello, and apologies if I didn’t get chance to chat with you. Thank you also to the lovely brides who have booked their wedding cake with me. I cant wait to be working with you all to make you your perfect cake.
I am booked to exhibit at several more wedding fairs over the next few months. If you are coming along to any, please do come and say hello – there might just be some cake!
